Buckinghamshire is one of the only counties in the UK to retain a fully selective grammar school education system, making it a truly sought-after location for families. Boasting a selection of desired schools with Outstanding OFSTED ratings in the surrounding area, the idyllic village of Long Crendon is ideal for parents seeking a family-friendly setting. One family who have recently made the move from Walton-on-Thames in Surrey to Long Crendon in Buckinghamshire, for the excellent choice of school options is The Cowle’s.
Rachel and Richard, along with their two children Penny (5) and Henry (2), were the first residents to move into Spitfire Bespoke Homes’ development Greenings in Long Crendon. Rachel comments: “We’d been living in Surrey for ten years and bought our previous property together in Walton-on-Thames around 5 years ago, just after we had our daughter Penny. However, when our son Henry was born, we started to think about the kind of place we wanted to bring the children up. The main factor was excellent school options for the children, but we also wanted a quieter village, closer to the countryside.”
She continues: “We started our search considering locations around the M40 including Thame and Haddenham, due to the area’s fantastic school reputation as well as the convenient transport links. My job is based in Birmingham, therefore we needed somewhere I could easily reach the office, as well as get into London for meetings. Transport links by car and train were also important as Richard works on the M4 corridor, so he needed to be able to get to drive to work as well. As soon as we visited Long Crendon, we fell in love with the village. We looked at a couple of second-hand properties but nothing ticked all of the boxes. As we were set on the location, we decided to look at Spitfire’s new homes at Greenings. We love that it’s not a huge-scale development, it’s in keeping with the rest of the village and there’s so many benefits to moving into a comfortable and practical home, which doesn’t need any work doing.”
Greenings comprises an exclusive collection of 41 luxurious new homes. Each has been designed with this quintessential village setting in mind, featuring an eclectic mix of architectural styles including a charming thatched cottage and a variety of traditional terraced and semi-detached houses and large detached residences, available in a mixture of two to five-bedroom layouts. Embellished with elements of period detail and a traditional palette of materials, each property has been created with the local vernacular in mind, drawing inspiration from the historic village of Long Crendon.
Rachel adds: “We love that there’s such a mix of house types at Greenings; our home reflects the traditional characters of the properties found on Long Crendon’s high street. Spitfire has really thought about the design and little details. We’ve now been in our new home for two months and absolutely love it, it’s extremely practical, well-built and the specification is very high. The main kitchen, family and dining area is open plan and spacious, so we can keep an eye on the children while we’re cooking. Penny and Henry also have their own play room downstairs, which has all of their toys in and they absolutely love the garden; we’re happy because they can play out there safely and securely. There’s also enough space for cars and parking. We’re looking forward to seeing the community grow as more families move in.”
Rachel concludes: “Long Crendon is a small village but there’s everything we need close by, both Thame, with its fantastic array of shops, and Haddenham, with the mainline station are less than a ten-minute drive away. In the area, the schools are all extremely good, which was one of our main reasons for moving. The primary school in Long Crendon is very popular; we’re looking forward to being able to walk down the road.”
Greenings is proving particularly popular with families relocating to the area for the fantastic educational options available. Local schools include Long Crendon Primary School within the village, Aylesbury Grammar School, Sir Henry Floyd Grammar and Lord William’s in Thame, as well as an array of excellent private schools in the surrounding area.
Set between the university city of Oxford and the charming town of Aylesbury, the village benefits from a fantastic location with a wide range of amenities. Haddenham and Thame Parkway Station provides direct train services to London Marylebone in approximately 50 minutes and Birmingham in approximately 75 minutes. The M40 offers convenient travel to London and the south east, and northwards to the Midlands, while the M4 places the south west within easy reach.
Prices at Greenings start from £699,950 for a four-bedroom home. For further information, please visit www.spitfirepg.co.uk or call Connells on 01844 208 918.
